ARC of Essex County
The ARC of Essex County (Association for Retarded Citizens), is a private, non-profit agency serving people with developmental disabilities and their families. Clients, from Essex County and its surrounding regions, come from all socioeconomic groups, races and religions. Through The ARC’s 45 programs, serving clients from birth through their senior years, individuals with mental retardation are enabled to learn, work, play and coexist with dignity in the community.
Henry lived with his widowed mother until her final illness. He now resides in one of The ARC’s group homes in Livingston. One of his interests is Broadway musicals, and he knows most of the scores from these shows. Henry has also been “adopted” by the Brotherhood of Temple Shalom, who bring him to events that he enjoys.
For Marian, The ARC’s day programs provide structure and activity. She attends recreational program such as bowling, which she enjoys. Marian lives with a sponsor family who, as Marian says, “takes very good care of her.” Shortly after Yom Kippur, she participated in a special memorial service where she read the Kaddish prayer for a fellow client who had recently died.
Henry and Marian are just two of the more than 1,300 people served by The ARC each week. Your contributions are greatly needed to support The ARC’s programs and services. Your gift of:
