MASA/Israel Journey
MASA is an historic partnership between the people of Israel, The Jewish Agency, and Jewish communities around the world to address declining Jewish identity and weakening affiliation with the State of Israel among diaspora youth by encouraging tens of thousands of young Jews aged 18-30 to participate in long-term programs in Israel.
We know that a short trip to Israel has a powerful and lasting impact on both Jewish identity and connection to Israel. Research has shown that a long term trip intensifies this effect dramatically, resulting in greater involvement with communal institutions, increased giving to federations and other Jewish causes, more widespread participation in synagogue life, and a higher rate of marriage within the Jewish community.
MASA’s goal is to bring 20,000 young Jews to Israel annually from all over the world, building tomorrow’s leaders, donors, and committed Jews. By 2010, 20,000 young Jews will be participating in a wide range of programs that all will include: Hebrew language instruction, lectures and fields trips designed to provide students with an intimate knowledge of the Land of Israel, volunteer work in Israeli society, and encounters with Israeli peers.
Significant scholarship assistance will be provided to those who need financial support in order to be a part of this transformative experience. Needy students may receive up to $10,000 in scholarship funding - $5,000 from a donor and a $5,000 match by the Government of Israel. Young adults from MetroWest, Cherkassy,Ukraine and Tucuman, Argentina are eligible for this vital help.
Your gift in any amount will be appreciated and will be matched dollar for dollar by the Israeli government. Each donation of $5,000, together with its Israeli match, will enable at least one youngster to participate in this transformative experience. Your endowment gift of $10 million is an investment in the future of the Jewish people and will provide scholarships annually to as many as 100 Jewish students. Appropriate naming and recognition opportunities are available for major endowment gifts.
